Happy Saturday, neighbors! Let's get you all caught up to start today off on an informed note.

First, today's weather:

Cloudy with a brief shower. High: 52 Low: 39.

Here are the top 3 stories today in Jackson:

  1. The Jackson City Council voted in a meeting Thursday night to extend Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba's emergency order on trash collections but remove references to a one-year contract with Richard's Disposal. The city is currently in a six-month emergency agreement with Waste Management, but that agreement is set to expire on Mar. 31. Several city council members expressed concerns because the mayor's administration has not yet provided a copy of the contract with Richard's Disposal or the equal business opportunity plan. (WLBT)
  2. Jackson State University recently held the grand opening of its Institute for Social Justice and Race Relations. The institute's goal is to help students overcome cultural and racial barriers by increasing student involvement in critical social justice and race relations issues. Institute directors say they hope their programming will equip students with the skills they need to create positive change in their communities. (WJTV)
  3. A Bruce Willis movie that was filmed in Jackson premieres tonight at the Jackson Convention Complex. "A Day to Die" tells the story of a parole officer who is forced to execute a series of heists in order to repay a debt and rescue his family. The red carpet premiere is closed to a limited audience, but the film will debut in theaters on March 4. (WAPT Jackson)
