Here are the top three stories in Jackson today:

  1. The American Civil Liberties Union of Mississippi has issued a letter to the Jackson Police Department urging the department to end its Ticket, Arrest, Tow program. The program has been in effect since last month and allegedly does not operate on probable cause. The ACLU also claims that the penalties issued disproportionately impact communities of color and those experiencing poverty. (WJTV)
  2. The Jackson Fire Department responded to a fire that broke out about 2 p.m. at the old General Electric building on Highway 80. According to officials with the department, the fire broke out on Thursday around 2 p.m. and the building was abandoned. The building is located near the old Coca-Cola plant and no injuries related to the fire have been reported. (WAPT Jackson)
  3. On Tuesday, a woman who was found dead with gunshot wounds was located on Forest Avenue and Clay Street. Her body did not have any identification and fingerprints revealed no matches, according to the State Crime Lab. According to officials, no suspects have been announced and those with information related to the shooting are encouraged to contact Crime Stoppers. (WAPT Jackson)
