Good morning, Jackson! Let's get you all caught up to start this Friday, Feb. 11 off on an informed note. Here's everything you need to know about what's happening today in Jackson.

First, today's weather:

Warm with plenty of sunshine. High: 72 Low: 44.

Here are the top three stories in Jackson today:

  1. The people of Jackson are ready for leaders to make a decision on a garbage collection contract for the city. Yesterday, the Jackson City Council pulled the execution of the Richard`s Disposal, Inc. garbage collection contract off the agenda. A local activist group said that they want the best contract possible but believe a decision needs to be made so the city can move on to other matters. (WJTV)
  2. A non-profit is giving away 200 free prom dresses in the Jackson area. Couture Cares knows that prom night can be expensive, which is why it's opening a prom dress boutique later this month - and the dresses, shoes, and accessories will all be free! The event will take place in the Cade Chapel Church family life center in Jackson Feb. 26. It will be first come first served. (Jackson Free Press)
  3. Jackson police have made several recent arrests, including those suspected of murder, carjacking, and a stabbing. Deputy Chief Deric Hearn said some of the arrests have been made during TAT (Ticket, Arrest, and Tow) checkpoints. Additional arrests include Antrell Johnson, Keshun Chamber, and Rosemary Hinton.
