Here are the top stories today in Jackson:
- Multiple police responded to a call outside the VA Medical Center on Woodrow Wilson Avenue Tuesday afternoon. Jackson police said a JTRAN driver saw what he described as a suspicious package left on the bus and called 911. As a precaution, the JPD bomb squad was called and the area was temporarily blocked off by law enforcement. After the investigation, officers determined the package was not an explosive device and everything returned to normal.(WAPT Jackson)
- The dispute between the Jackson City Council and Mayor Chokwe A. Lumumba will head to court on Thursday, September 30. In a special meeting on Wednesday, the Council unanimously approved the mayor's request to hire his own legal team. They said he has the right to defend himself. Lumumba said he cannot use the city's attorneys against the City Council in court. (WJTV)
- Hancock Whitney has pledged $25,000 to establish the Hancock Whitney Bank Endowed Scholarship at Jackson State University (JSU) to support undergraduate female students pursuing degrees in mathematics, finance, accounting, or economics. (WJTV)
- Two teen boys have been charged as adults, after deputies say they robbed a gas station Wednesday morning in Jackson County. (WLOX)
