- A new project could help needy Mississippi families hold onto land. A nonprofit law firm is working to help low-income families hold onto inherited land, which would also build wealth and "preserve biological diversity." The Mississippi Center for Justice is providing aid to families who cannot afford legal representation for obtaining documentation of land ownership. (Jackson Free Press)
- A Jackson organization hosted a rental assistance fair for Hinds County residents. Cooperation Jackson is hosting another fair on Oct. 23 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at 1128 West Capitol Street. For those wanting to attend, the organization is telling everyone to bring a valid form of ID, a lease or utility bill and proof of rental cost, a past due or eviction notice or document of financial burden, and all documents of income. - Law enforcement set up safety checkpoints in Jackson to get "dirty guns" off the street and ensure a safe homecoming weekend. (WLBT)
