Here are the top stories in Jackson today:
- An illegal dump site is filling up with tires, worsening the problem of blight in Mississippi's capital city. A vacant lot in the central part of Jackson, once the home of a Mississippi Valley Gas office, is now filled with mounds of tires and bags of garbage. Business owners say when the city cleans the site, people just leave more trash; residents are now calling on the city to stop the problem. (WLBT)
- Jackson police responded to a deadly shooting that happened on State Street Saturday afternoon. According to witnesses, the man was shot inside a vehicle outside the Texaco gas station; the Hinds County coroner responded to the scene. The victim's name has not been released at this time. (WJTV)
- Saturday's Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) championship marked a victory for Jackson State, beating Prairie View A&M 27-10. (New York Post)
- The Junior League of Jackson's Junior League Jumble donated more than 900 articles of clothing to the Jackson Public School District for its annual "Pile O' Pants" drive. (WJTV)
