Here are the top three stories today in Jackson:

  1. As of Thursday morning, over 4,000 Jackson residents were still without power following severe weather earlier in the week. Outages were concentrated in the southwest. The severe thunderstorms and tornadoes that swept through Mississippi on Wednesday caused structural damage to buildings in the Jackson metro area. (Jackson Patch)
  2. The Jackson region is set to reserve millions of dollars in public works investment from The US Army Corps of Engineers. The approved projects include over $5 million to improve water treatment in the City of Jackson. (WJTV)

  • On the official Mississippi Braves team Instagram, there's a striking picture of a tornado nearly missing the stadium during Wednesday's storm. The caption reads, "Thankfully this guy missed us here in Pearl, but keep our area in your prayers." (Instagram)
  • The Mississippi Museum of Art posted a tribute to departed longtime board member Steve Edds. The post credits Edds as "a dedicated patron of the arts" who helped lead efforts to move the MMA to its current building.(Facebook)
  • Coming Apr. 23, Opera Mississippi presents "The Magic of Opera" at the Belhaven Center for Performing Arts. The evening will feature a sampling of classic compositions from luminaries such as Mozart and Rossini. (Facebook)
