Hello, neighbors! It's me again, Kayla Harrison, your host of the Jackson Daily.

First, today's weather:

A t-storm around in the p.m. High: 83 Low: 67.

Here are the top three stories today in Jackson:

  1. Jackson's trash woes continue after Judge Jess Dickinson refused to issue a ruling on whether or not the mayor can veto a no vote of the Jackson City Council. The judge acknowledged his ability to rule on the matter but did not want to without the consent of both parties involved. Judge Dickinson expressed confusion about what the mayor's legal team wanted since mixed signals were given throughout the case. (WLBT)
  2. A Silver Alert has been issued by the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation for Jackson's David Johnson, 59. Johnson was last seen on Saturday in the 300 block of Hinds County's Brown Street. A Silver Alert is meant to spread the awareness of a missing person. (WLBT)
  3. Pulitzer Prize-winning author Alice Walker will be speaking at the 2022 Mississippi Book Festival. Walker is best known for writing "The Color Purple" and this year marks the 40th anniversary of its release. Her book won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 1983. The festival will be in-person this year. (Jackson Free Press)
