Hello, neighbors! Kayla Harrison here with your brand-new copy of the Jackson Daily.

First, today's weather:

Plenty of sun. High: 68 Low: 45.

Here are the top three stories in Jackson today:

  1. The Jackson Medical Mall Foundation (JMMF) has been awarded $1.6M to improve health and wealth equity in the Jackson community and Hinds County. The W.K. Kellogg Foundation awarded JMMF the money for the Advancing Health and Wealth Equity Project which was designed to assist disadvantaged, low-income minorities with the goal to boost economic and health mobility over a 17-month period. As a part of the program, at least 15 small, new, and/or existing minority/female business enterprises will have access to a multi-week consortium that will guide business owners in the startup process at no cost. (WJTV)
  2. Many residents in a downtown neighborhood are scared after viewing a viral video showing a group of people vandalizing the vacant Rowan Middle School and allegedly threatening the community. The video is of a group of people inside the school with guns, rummaging around and setting fires. According to viewers, the group may be a gang that calls themselves the #houseshooters. Rowan Middle School is located near numerous houses on East Ash Street and Whitfield Street in Jackson. Jackson Public Schools is asking anyone with information about this incident or the people in the video to call 601-987-3767. (WAPT Jackson)
  3. U.S. Senator Roger Wicker (R-Miss.) will host the U.S. Department of Commerce Deputy Secretary Don Graves in a visit to Jackson today. Wicker and Graves are set to feature the impact recent broadband investments in Mississippi have had on residents, as well as future investments made possible by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. "I am glad to have Deputy Secretary Graves in Mississippi to see all the great work we are doing to expand broadband access to all Mississippians," said Wicker. "The Broadband Infrastructure Program is helping to connect thousands of homes, businesses, schools, and universities across Mississippi to high-quality internet." (WJTV)
