Rise and shine, Jackson! Here's everything you need to know to get this Wednesday started off right.
First, today's weather:
Clouds giving way to some sun. High: 58 Low: 39.
Here are the top 3 stories today in Jackson:
- Mississippi Senate leaders are proposing a major teacher pay raise. If this proposal were approved, Mississippi teachers could see an increase of about $5,700 over a period of three years, including a $1,000 raise provided by the Legislature last year. (WAPT Jackson)
- Several organizations helped kick off the seventh annual Jackson Indie Music Week, one of the fastest-growing music festivals in Central Mississippi. The city of Jackson, Visit Jackson, Visit Mississippi, and MBAR teamed up to make this event possible. It will last until Jan. 16. (WAPT Jackson)
- Members of the City Council want twice-a-week trash pickups to continue in Jackson. They were not concerned whether the option required residents to have a 96-gallon garbage can, and they recommended that the mayor negotiate the waste-hauling contract of his choices. (WLBT)
