🌱 March Of The Mayors Food Drive + Mask Mandate Lifting Soon

Here are the top three stories today in Jackson:

  1. Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba is asking Jackson residents for their help in raising food items for the Mississippi food pantry Extra Table. The March of the Mayors food drive is running now through March 22. Residents are asked to donate tuna to several locations, including Kroger at 4910 Interstate 55 North or Firehouse Station 23 at 2640 Raymond Rd. (Press Release Desk)
  2. Jackson will join a new peer-learning cohort led by the National League of Cities (NLC), according to Jackson leaders. The program runs from Feb. 2022 through Aug. 2o23 and will support re-engagement efforts with other city leaders and partners across the Southeast and Southwest. A comprehensive plan has been proposed by the City's Office of Economic Development that identifies four ways to engage and elevate the lives of those who have left high school prematurely. (WJTV)
  3. In a recent announcement, Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba said he will be lifting the mask mandate for the city soon. According to the mayor, after consulting with the COVID Task Force, he believes a mask mandate is no longer necessary. Lumumba is waiting for the city's legal department to send him the executive order, however, he expects the mandate to be lifted before the St. Paddy's Day parade. (WJTV)
