Here are the top stories today in Jackson:
- The mayor of Jackson is considering suing the city council over the garbage collection contract. Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba said he is angry the council twice voted down his plan to replace Waste Management with Texas-based FCC Environmental. The council also rejected the mayor's offer to hire a local company connected to businessman Socrates Garrett to collect trash on an emergency basis. (WAPT Jackson)
- One man was killed and another man was wounded in a Jackson shooting. The shooting was reported Monday afternoon near Cox and McKinley streets, police said. Authorities say Teishun Norwood was shot in the chest and a 31-year-old man, whose name has not been released, was shot in the shoulder. (WAPT Jackson)
- A Jackson firefighter is now behind bars after being charged with sexual battery. (WLBT)
