Here are the top stories in Jackson today:

  1. A Jackson mother struggles to find a safe place to live more than four months after her daughter's murder. She has been afraid to return to her home because she believes Jimel Smith, who was charged with her daughter's murder, was not the only one involved. When she contacted the city for help, she was left with a victim's packet that was outdated and contained disconnected phone numbers. (WLBT)
  2. Four cases of West Nile Virus have been reported in Mississippi. This virus causes flu-like symptoms in people who were bitten by infected mosquitos. The new cases have been reported in Hinds, Holmes, Pearl River and Yazoo counties. (WJTV)
  3. Hinds County Supervisor David Archie was arrested and charged with five misdemeanors after an altercation at a board meeting. (Jackson Free Press)
  4. The Association of South Jackson Neighborhoods will host a fall clean-up day on Oct. 9 from 7:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. (WLBT)
  5. Tougaloo College is among 20 other Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) that have been awarded $500K to preserve historic structures. (WJTV)
