Here are the top three stories today in Jackson:

  1. Court proceedings began Monday to determine whether the federal government should take over the running of the Raymond Detention Center. Since 2016, the jail has been under a consent decree designed to address "unconstitutional conditions." U.S. Justice Department attorneys want Judge Carlton Reeves to not only continue the consent decree but go even further and institute a federal takeover. (WAPT)
  2. Step into history with the Fossil Road Show, hosted by the Mississippi Museum of Natural Science! The event will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m on Saturday, Mar. 5. Visitors can enjoy fossil displays, hands-on activities, and even a scavenger hunt. (WJTV)
  3. Residents of South Jackson's Cedar Crest Apartments fear their health is at risk due to poor conditions at the complex. According to residents, the landlord has not addressed sewage leaks and other maintenance issues in the apartments, causing residents to become sick as well as experience higher bills. Cedar Crest Management released a statement addressing the issue, stating that management "fixes all issues as they occur."(WLBT)
