First, today's weather:

Mostly cloudy and warmer. High: 77 Low: 48.


Here are the top three stories in Jackson today:

  1. The Mississippi House and Senate are likely to maintain Republican majorities in each chamber after approving each other's redistricting plans. Each decade, the 122 House districts and 52 Senate districts are updated in accordance with possible population changes from Census data. In the Senate, one district is being moved from southwestern Mississippi to Rankin and Smith counties near the metro Jackson area. (Jackson Free Press)
  2. One person was killed in a head-on crash on Friday near Jackson State University.
    The crash happened on University Boulevard and Terry Road. The driver who was killed has been identified as killed as 71-year-old Linda Harris of Jackson. Police are still investigating the incident. (WAPT Jackson)
  3. A new bill on the docket is set to create a dedicated fund for Jackson's beleaguered water and sewer system. House Bill 1031 was approved this week by both the House and the Senate. It focuses specifically on creating funding for upgrades and repairs to Jackson's water and sewer system. Specifics for the bill are yet to be announced. (Clarion Ledger)
