Happy Friday, people of Jackson! Let's get you all caught up to start today off on an informed note.

First, today's weather:

Partly sunny, breezy and cool. High: 64 Low: 38.

Here are the top three stories in Jackson today:

  1. Registration for the City of Jackson's Department of Parks and Recreation summer program is now open. The registration period will remain open until all of the spots are filled. The seven-week program is meant for children between the ages of 6 and 12. The program runs from Jun. 6 to Jul. 22, Monday through Friday. (WJTV)
  2. Operation Shoestring is providing support to families that are concerned about Jackson water quality. The nonprofit is providing water filters to remove lead and other impurities from a family's water supply for six months. More than 100 families will be provided with the Brita filters. (WLBT)
  3. The University of Mississippi Medical Center and the Jackson-Hinds Comprehensive Health Center performed free oral, head, and neck cancer screenings for the community on Apr. 6. The non-invasive screenings took up to 10 minutes to perform and are important in ensuring a patient's successful treatment for cancer. The event was in recognition of Oral, Head, and Neck Cancer Awareness Week. (WJTV)
