A Canton teen holding his infant son was fatally shot while trying to take cover, according to the teen's mother. 17-year-old Jaihlen Sims was holding his 2-month-old son in his bedroom when someone drove up to the home on North Canal Street and fired shots. Sims was attempting to get up and run for cover when he was shot in the head. (WAPT Jackson)
  2. A woman was killed in a motorcycle crash in Jackson on Thursday night. Hinds County Coroner Sharon Grisham-Stewart said Dilek Tyler, 35, was killed in the motorcycle crash. She ran off the road and hit a concrete barrier. The cause of the crash has not yet been determined. (WAPT Jackson)
  3. Leaders with the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson reported a total of 33 hospitalized COVID-19 patients as of Friday, October 8. (WJTV)
  4. District 20 Senator Josh Harkins continued to support Mississippi's attempt to take over the airport from the city of Jackson. (Northside Sun)
