🌱 Jackson Trash Bash + Senior Gas Giveaway At Chuk Stop
The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Jackson.

Hello, Jackson! I'm Nicole, filling in for your usual curator Kayla. Here's what you need to know about what's happening in town today.
First, today's weather:
Partly sunny. High: 68 Low: 40.
Here are the top three stories today in Jackson:
- The Mississippi Department of Transportation's annual Trash Bash has begun, and Jackson's event is happening today, Mar. 24. In partnership with Keep Mississippi Beautiful, the Department of Transportation hosts this event in efforts to keep Mississippi's highways and streets clean, in accordance with the larger Great American Cleanup campaign. Volunteers will be picking up litter on State Route 25 in Rankin County throughout the day. (WJTV)
- Wanda Evers, Coffee & Conversations, and 90.1 WMPR hosted a free gas giveaway for disabled seniors in Jackson this week. The event took place at Chuk Stop Food Mart, located at 3165 Robinson Street. Although the original plan was to distribute $1,000 in free gas, organizers were able to exceed that and provide $1,841 worth of gas to local seniors. (WJTV)
- The University of Mississippi Medical Center remains as much a leader in the state's COVID-19 response efforts as it did a full two years ago. Since the pandemic's beginning in 2o20, COVID-19 has claimed 12,336 lives and sickened 793,635 in Mississippi alone. In the face of these numbers, Mississippi MED-COM, a part of UMMC's Mississippi Center for Emergency Services, has facilitated the transfer of hundreds of seriously ill COVID-19 patients from hospitals around the state for a higher level of care and led the coordination of emergency medical transport and patient transfers statewide.
