Here are the top stories in Jackson today:
- Jackson residents will have trash pick up, at least for the next six months. On Thursday, the Jackson City Council and Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba reached an agreement to drop a lawsuit on the impending expiration of the city's trash collection and enter into a new six-month agreement with Waste Management to continue residential pickups. The council approved the resolution, which will pave way for the mayor to implement the roughly $5.4 million agreement, at a special called meeting Thursday. (WLBT)
- Members of the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force arrested a man in Jackson in connection to a Hattiesburg homicide. Nykeus Samson, 23, of Jasper County, was arrested on Tuesday, September 28. He was wanted for second-degree murder in connection to a homicide in May 2019.(WJTV)
- A St. Dominic cancer patient had her medical debt paid off following a project published by the Mississippi Center for Investigative Reporting. (Clarion-Ledger)
- Near daily gunfire terrorizes Northeast Jackson residents as they say their once quiet area now sounds like a war zone. (WLBT)
- An infant was killed in a multi-car crash on Highway 18 in Hinds County. (WJTV)
