Happy Saturday, people of Jackson! Let's get you all caught up on what's happening locally to start today off on an informed note.

Here are the top 3 stories in Jackson today:
- Local agencies joined the FBI's Violent Gun Reduction and Interdiction Program (VGRIP) to combat violent crime in Jackson. The Byram Police Department, Reservoir Patrol, Simpon County Sheriff's Office, Hinds County Sheriff's Office, Madison Police Department, Rankin Country Sheriff's Office, and other law enforcement agencies have joined together. The residents of Jackson and surrounding communities will benefit from this support. (WJTV)
- The Hinds County Community dance group is set to perform "Hidden Figures: The Movement of Mathematics." The dancers will be performing the significant achievements of the African American women of NASA; Katherine Johnson, Dorothy Vaughan, Mary Jackson, and Dr. Christine Darden. These women helped John Glenn be the first American to orbit Earth on Feb. 20, 1962. (WJTV)
- A new bill would mean $2 million for Jackson Fire Department. S.B. 2060 would give funds to the University of Mississippi Medical Center to allow it to contract with the Jackson Fire Department for providing fire service. It's unclear when the bill has to be voted out of committee, but it must pass the full Senate by Feb. 23. (WLBT)
