Hey, people of Jackson! It's me again, Kayla Harrison, your host of the Jackson Daily.

First, today's weather:

Colder; breezy in the morning. High: 43 Low: 25.

Here are the top three stories in Jackson today:

  1. The city of Jackson is seeking a dismissal of a complaint filed by Waste Management.
According to documents, company leaders are entering into contract negotiations with the city since council members rejected Richard Disposal's bid for service. Attorneys for the city said the move is premature since a contract has not been signed. "We've got a signed contract, are we going to start working on Apr. 1, or what? I'm prepared to do the work," said Alvin Richard, owner of Waste Management. (WAPT Jackson)
  2. The Jackson community wants to focus on bringing more awareness to mental health. Ward 2 councilwoman Angelique Lee said mental health awareness will be a major part of her campaign moving forward and she will be encouraging council members to have similar conversations throughout the city. This announcement comes as data from the CDC found more than 400 Mississippians have lost their lives to suicide. "That number has just about doubled since that time and that's from the department of mental health," noted Mental Health Professional Christiane Williams. (WJTV)
  3. The Jackson-Medgar Wiley Evers International Airport (JAN) is expecting to see an increase in spring break travelers this year. JAN leaders expect airport traffic to rise significantly beginning Mar. 10 until this Monday, Mar. 14. During this period, peak hours for departures will be 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m., 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., and 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Passengers are requested to arrive at least two hours before their flight.
