Here are the top 3 stories today in Jackson:

  1. Some South Jackson neighbors are facing little to no water pressure as system issues are being fixed. There have been water leaks and system issues that have delayed the restoration of water, according to city leaders. City Engineer Dr. Charles Williams claims progress should be made Monday, Jan. 24. (WJTV)
  2. Jackson's first Black police officer died on Jan. 11. Joe Lewis Land, born in 1939, worked as a police officer for JPD, and he received the Lifetime Achievement Award during his service there. Hinds County Sheriff, Tyree Jones, reflected on Land's career and shared that he "broke the barrier so many decades ago and paved the way for so many others to follow." (WJTV)
  3. JPD introduced checkpoints that are aimed at lowering crime in hotspots around the city. Jackson Police Chief James Davis claims they've come across people with illegal handguns, drugs, and expired licenses.
