• Lauderdale County supervisors pass FY27 budget (wtok.com) — Lauderdale County supervisors have approved the FY27 budget without raising taxes, while planning major spending on roads, bridges, garbage service, law enforcement and emergency management that Meridian residents rely on. Leaders expect a new Compass Datacenters project to boost revenue for the county, the city of Meridian, and local schools, potentially easing future funding pressures and expanding services.
• Single-engine plane makes emergency landing in Kemper County (wtok.com) — A single-engine plane traveling from Mobile to Missouri was forced to make an emergency landing on Highway 397 in nearby Kemper County, a situation closely watched in the Meridian area. After losing oil pressure, the pilot brought the aircraft down on the road, clipping a sign and spinning into a field, but avoiding oncoming traffic and likely preventing a more serious crash.
