1. Meridian annexation bid draws opposition from Briarwood residents (wtok.com) — Meridian's push to annex land near the Sonny Montgomery Industrial Park is facing strong resistance from Briarwood residents, who say the city never delivered promised water and sewer upgrades after annexing them 18 years ago. A spring trial set for March 29–April 2 will decide whether Meridian can expand, while nearby Marion weighs its own capacity to serve the area.
2. Meridian Nutcracker Celebrates 25 Years of Holiday Magic; Auditions Set for September 23 (queencitynewsfeed.com) — Local families can get their young dancers on stage as The Meridian Nutcracker marks its 25th season with children's auditions on Wednesday, Sept. 23 at 4 p.m. at the Temple Theatre. More than 100 kids from Meridian and nearby communities will perform with a professional ballet company in the Nov. 24 show, with tickets on sale Nov. 2.
3. New grant approved for the Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department (wtok.com) — Lauderdale County supervisors have approved a new LEO grant that will help the Sheriff's Department add a second K-9 and two unmarked vehicles for the Drug Task Force. Based in the Meridian area, the expanded canine team will assist with searches for missing people and narcotics, while boosting the number of reliable patrol vehicles in rotation.
4. Showers & storms continue this evening (wtok.com) — Expect showers and storms to linger around Meridian this evening, with a low but real risk of damaging winds and some patchy dense fog overnight. Another round of storms is possible Tuesday before a midweek cold front finally brings drier air, highs in the upper 80s, and refreshing low 60s mornings by Friday.
