Today's riddle: What are the two favorite words for a shark to hear? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. A dozen East Mississippi officers graduate from intensive crisis intervention training (wtok.com) — Twelve East Mississippi officers, including five from the Meridian Police Department, have completed a 40-hour crisis intervention course in Meridian to better handle mental health emergencies. Local law enforcement leaders say the training will help officers de-escalate tense situations, understand psychiatric distress, and connect residents to treatment instead of jail, strengthening everyday public safety across Meridian and Lauderdale County.
2. MPD announces 3 arrests in North Hill Street shooting investigation (meridianstar.com) — Meridian police have arrested three suspects in the recent North Hills Street shooting that damaged several local businesses, including a dental office. All three men are in custody on armed robbery and shooting-into-dwelling charges, and investigators credit community tips and Real Time Crime Center cameras as they continue pursuing additional leads in the ongoing case.
3. Lauderdale County SWAT makes arrest in ongoing drug investigation (meridianstar.com) — Lauderdale County narcotics investigators arrested a 53-year-old Meridian man after a SWAT team served search and arrest warrants on Oakland Forest Court as part of an ongoing drug probe. He faces multiple methamphetamine and ecstasy distribution charges near a church or school, with total bond set at $175,000 and the case headed to a grand jury.
4. Fay and Gonzalo weaken, with another area to watch this week (wtok.com) — From Meridian, forecasters report that Tropical Depression Fay and Tropical Storm Gonzalo are both weakening under wind shear, while another disturbance southeast of Bermuda could slowly organize this week. Residents are reminded that the 2026 hurricane season is far from over and encouraged to keep following updates as the next named storm, Hanna, could eventually form.
