Meridian to raise water rates October 1st (wtok.com) — Meridian residents will see their water and sewer bills rise starting October 1, with a 7% rate hike plus flat recovery fees of $3 for water and $10 for sewer. City leaders say the increase, approved by a unanimous council vote, is needed to fund ongoing consent decree projects and replace aging infrastructure, supplemented by tens of millions in state and federal support.
   

2. Meridian crushes Hattiesburg 40-0 (meridianstar.com) — Meridian High's Wildcats delighted home fans with a 40-0 rout of Hattiesburg, powered by multiple touchdown connections from quarterback Cordarrin Wilson. The roundup also highlights results for Southeast, Northeast, West Lauderdale, Clarkdale, Lamar, and Russell Christian, plus who they'll face or when they're off this coming Friday so you can plan your local football night.
   

3. Mississippi Delegation Applauds Key Field's Selection as a KC-46 Finalist (senate.gov) — Key Field in Meridian has been named one of four preferred bases to host the Air Force's next-generation KC-46 refueling aircraft, a move that could strengthen local jobs and investment. Mississippi's congressional delegation is pushing hard in Washington, citing Meridian's strategic location, existing 186th Air Refueling Wing, and the community's long support for military families.
   

4. This Little Railroad Museum In Meridian, Mississippi Gets Grandparents And Grandkids Swapping Stories While Real Trains Roll By (takingthekids.com) — Meridian's Railroad Museum on Front Street offers families a close-up look at rail history, complete with real freight and Amtrak trains rolling by just outside. With limited weekday hours, the volunteer-run museum packs its historic express building with memorabilia, kid-friendly activities, and even space for school lunches or small parties, making it a low-cost outing for local grandparents and grandkids.
   

5. Twelve officers graduate from crisis intervention training (meridianstar.com) — Twelve law enforcement officers, including five from the Meridian Police Department, just completed a weeklong, 40-hour crisis intervention training in Meridian focused on responding to mental health emergencies. Led by the East Mississippi Crisis Intervention Team, the course emphasized de-escalation, empathy, and connecting residents to services, with Sheriff Ward Calhoun and Chief Malachi Sanders urging graduates to use their new skills across local communities.
