1. American Freedom Tribute coming to Meridian (clarkecountytrib.com) — East Mississippi Veterans Park in Meridian will host the American Freedom Tribute and Traveling Vietnam Memorial Wall from Oct. 9-11, offering free, family-friendly ceremonies, concerts, and school activities. Expect military flyovers, bands, a devotional, and tributes to regional communities' service, all centered around the park's 400-foot Vietnam memorial replica.
2. John Jennings visits local schools (wtok.com) — Students at Meridian High School and other Lauderdale County schools spent this week learning from award-winning graphic novelist John Jennings, who shared how art can become a real career. He walked teens through his creative process and urged them to explore their own talents. Locals can also see his work and make their own at the MAX's "John Jennings: Build Your World" exhibit.
3. Meridian's Zauria Clark Recognized for State Title in 100 Meter Event (wtok.com) — Meridian High School celebrated senior sprinter Zauria Clark on Thursday as she received her ring for winning the Class 7A 100-meter dash state title. Friends, family, and teammates gathered on campus to honor her journey from middle-school runner to state champion and former State Games of Mississippi Athlete of the Year.
4. First Alert: New area to watch for tropical development (wtok.com) — Meteorologists in Meridian are tracking a low-pressure system near Bermuda and a broader zone in the Gulf and northwest Caribbean where tropical development is possible over the next two weeks.
