1. Jimmie Rodgers Museum prepares for its future move in Meridian (twinstates.news) — Plans to move the Jimmie Rodgers Museum to Front Street are moving ahead, with grants secured to purchase the new downtown Meridian building. As staff prepare for the relocation, the collection keeps growing, including a historic microphone and a railroad lantern tied directly to Jimmie Rodgers' life and Meridian's rail history.
2. Meridian's Key Field Among Four Preferred Locations for KC-46 Tankers (queencitynewsfeed.com) — Key Field Air National Guard Base in Meridian has been named one of four preferred locations for the Air Force's new KC-46 Pegasus refueling tankers, a move that could bring major investment and long-term missions to the area. Local Guard leaders and Mississippi's congressional delegation say Meridian's strategic location, infrastructure upgrades, and aviation history strengthen its chances as final evaluations continue.
3. America's Freedom Tribute coming to East MS Veterans Park next weekend (meridianstar.com) — Next weekend, Meridian will host America's Freedom Tribute at East Mississippi Veterans Memorial Park, featuring a traveling Vietnam Memorial Wall and a Cost of Freedom exhibit honoring service members from World War I to today. Open 24 hours from Oct. 9–11, the event will include school field trips, a sunset concert with the 41st Army Band, and a Sunday worship service with full military honors.
4. Inspired by generosity, MSU-Meridian nursing students create yearly scholarship (msstate.edu) — MSU-Meridian nursing graduates Shay Naylor and Jasmine Lindsey have created a new $1,000 annual scholarship to support future nursing students at the Meridian campus. Drawing on their own experiences with financial aid, they're using personal savings to ease the burden for one MSN student each year and highlight the campus's strong culture of giving back.
5. Jennings gives insight on life, career (meridianstar.com) — Award-winning graphic novelist John Jennings is spending a week in Meridian, sharing his work and story through an exhibition and school visits centered at The Mississippi Arts + Entertainment Experience. His "Build Your World" show at The MAX highlights themes like Afrofuturism and horror, while he encourages local students to see art as a real career path he once doubted was possible.
