Johnson & Johnson Powder-Cancer Case: Review Sought In Missouri
A Missouri appeals court threw out a $72 million award last month saying the state wasn't the proper jurisdiction.

ST. LOUIS, MO — Jacqueline Fox died two years ago at the age of 62 and the Birmingham, Alabama, woman's estate said Johnson & Johnson’s talcum powder contributed to Fox's ovarian cancer. Her estate was awarded $72 million last year in the first of several St. Louis cases claiming talc powder contributed to cancer.
But a Missouri appeals court — citing a recent U.S. Supreme Court that said there must be a connection between the plaintiff’s claims and the state where a lawsuit is filed — threw out the award last month, saying the state wasn’t the proper jurisdiction.
On Tuesday, Fox’s survivors challenged that ruling, seeking another review of the case or a transfer to the state Supreme Court, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported.
