U.S. Cellular Supports Local Veterans in Recognition of Military

Volunteerism is a company priority at U.S. Cellular.

In celebration of Military Appreciation Month, U.S. Cellular associates from throughout mid-Missouri engaged in a series of events honoring Missouri veterans, including helping to extend the reach of Operation: Veteran Smiles (OVS), a program created by teenager Amelia Day to bring smiles and basic necessities to veterans. In support of that initiative, the associates packed toiletry kits, wrote personal cards and hand-delivered them to 150 patients at the Harry S. Truman Memorial Veterans’ Hospital. The wireless company also helped clean grave markers and beautify the grounds at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in preparation for Memorial Day and provided on-site assistance as the community welcomed veterans home from Central Missouri Honor Flight #52.

“Our associates live and work in the communities we serve and are committed to getting involved and making a difference locally,” said Nakeita Stewart, director of sales for U.S. Cellular in Missouri and a Columbia resident. “This year, U.S. Cellular’s Midwest VALOR ARG Chapter participated in events to honor those who have served our country and demonstrate our appreciation for them.”

Columbia and nearly 4,900 across the country. In addition to hand-delivering the kits, associates spent time socializing and getting to know the vets. At the Missouri Veterans Cemetery, associates cleaned, mulched and placed flags at each gravesite to help beautify the cemetery grounds in advance of Memorial Day. U.S. Cellular volunteers were also on-hand to ensure the 110 veterans on board Central Missouri Honor Flight #52 were appropriately welcomed home.

Volunteerism is a company priority at U.S. Cellular, and associates are encouraged to get involved with organizations they care about to reach a company-wide goal of 35,000 volunteer hours in 2018. For more information, visit www.uscellular.com/about/community-outreach.
