Affton Fire Promotes Two, Swears In New Hires

Tuesday evening, the Affton Fire Protection Disrict held a promotion ceremony for two lieutenants and a pinning ceremony for two new firefighters.

Tuesday evening, members of the , along with their families, gathered in Station 1 for the promotion ceremony for Lieutenants Kristen Troup and Steve Rahm, and well as the pinning ceremony for new firefighters Dan Grossenheider and Tim Hughes.

Assistant Fire Chief Mark Emert led the badge pinning ceremony and swearing in of new firefighters.

Lieutenant Kristen Troup, formerly a firefighter paramedic who has been with the district for three years, is both the first female lieutenant, as well as the first female firefighter, in the Affton District. "I'm very excited about (the promotion)," said Troup.

Lieutenant Steve Rohm, formerly a private, has served in the Affton District for ten years. "It's a good opportunity to move up in the ranks, and I'm happy to be serving in this role," said Rohm of his promotion.

"I'm excited to be here; it's a wonderful change," said Private Tim Hughes, of his new job at Affton Fire. "There's great leadership and it just seems like a great place to work in general."

"I'm extremely excited," said new private Dan Grossenheider. "I've wanted to work here for a long time. It's definitely a dream come true to be hired. My grandparents live in the district, and my father and two older brothers are firefighters in neighboring districts, and I've heard a lot of good things about Affton."
