Affton High Gym Shines After First Paint Job in 50 Years

The school also added a new indoor concession stand.

The gym had to be dusted before they could paint it.

The gym was last painted when it was built in 1955, and a lot of dust collects over half a century. At least 50 gallons of it, Affton High Principal Susan Jackson said.

That's all done now, though. The gym has a fresh coat of white paint. It's one of several improvements the school did over the summer.

"Everything is really nice," she said. "It turned out well."

The gym is also slated to get plastic, purple covers for its wooden bleachers. That won't happen until this coming semester or next year, however.

When games are held in the gym, the audience will also be able to get snacks at a new concession stand nearby. It will sell drinks, candy bars and hot items including hotdogs and nachos.

Before the consession stand, Jackson said parents would bring food for the games. Revenue from the sales will go towards paying for the yearly lock-in for graduating seniors.
