Affton Precinct Police Blotter: Drive-by Purse Snatching

The following information was supplied by the Affton Precinct of the St. Louis County Police Department. Arrests do not indicate convictions.

Saturday, July 23

A bicycle was reported stolen from a backyard in the 5000 block of Lakewood Avenue in Affton. The victim reported the next day that persons unknown had returned the bike to the side of his house.

At the Shop ‘N Save at Lindbergh Boulevard and Mueller Road, a victim reported that they had left their wallet in the checkout lane. The wallet was missing when they came back for it. The victim later received a phone call that the wallet had been recovered, but $200 in cash was still missing from it.

In the 12300 block of Old Tesson Ferry Road, a vehicle had its window shattered, and a wallet was stolen from within.

Wheels and tires were stolen from an SUV on the lot of the Bommarito car dealership at 6127 Lindbergh Blvd.

Tuesday, July 26

A woman’s purse was stolen in a drive-by snatching in the Aldi’s in Green Park, 11158 Lindbergh Business Court. The suspect drove his vehicle next to the victim, reached out of his vehicle, grabbed her purse and sped away. The vehicle was located by a county police officer, but the suspect failed to yield to a traffic stop. While fleeing police, the suspect threw the purse from his vehicle. He was pursued by highway patrol and eventually stopped in Franklin County. He was taken into custody and still had the victim’s credit card in his possession.

A purse with debit card and driver’s license was reported stolen from an unlocked vehicle in the 9200 block of Fort Sumter Lane in Sappington.

Wednesday, July 27

A burglary was reported in the 8600 block of Hillery Drive in Affton. Nothing was taken, however.

Thursday, July 28

A burglary was reported in the 9300 block of Aster Avenue in Affton. A stereo, watches, collector’s coins, garage door opener, cash and the doors to a Jeep were stolen.

A vehicle near the intersection of Sappington Road and South Lindbergh Boulevard had its window smashed and a purse was stolen from within. A woman was later caught on camera using the stolen credit card at several locations.

In the 8000 block of Mackenzie Road, a credit card was reported stolen. However, a gas station employee later located it after the police report had been filed.

At the 13000 block of Old Tesson Ferry Road, an individual was found in possession of prescription medication that he admitted to having just stolen from a purse. The victim identified her property, and the suspect was arrested.
