Cor Jesu Academy Sophomore Selected to Artist in Training Program

Cor Jesu Sophomore hits the AIT vocal high note

On Saturday, September 29, Cor Jesu sophomore Julia Pottinger auditioned with 75 other high school students from across the St. Louis area and hit one of the highest notes to enhance her talent in singing. She was chosen as one of only a select 20 students to participate in the Opera Theatre St. Louis’ Artist in Training Program (AIT).

According to the Opera Theatre of Saint Louis’ website, the AIT program (sponsored by Monsanto) was established in 1990 and is unique in the U.S. “The program identifies, coaches and encourages talented students from high schools across the St. Louis area with weekly voice lessons by opera professionals at one of the four area universities. The program also offers master classes with visiting artists, awards more than $20,000 annually in scholarships and provides college guidance to high school graduates. By the end of this year more than 160 students will have completed the program; scholarship awards totaling more than $300,000  have been presented to current students and to alumni, who continue vocal studies in college."
