Lighthouse for the Blind–St. Louis Offering Half-Price Tickets to Descriptive Audio Shows at the Fox Theatre

May 7, 2012, St. Louis, Missouri…Lighthouse for the Blind-Saint Louis, a non-profit corporation that assists legally blind people maintain dignity and independence by providing Employment, Education and Support Services, is offering half-price tickets to descriptive audio shows at The Fabulous Fox Theatre as part of the Lighthouse Arts and Entertainment Accessibility program.
Half-price tickets are available from the Lighthouse to theatrical performances at the Fox Theatre that will begin in August 2012 and continue through June 13, 2012, and be enhanced by descriptive audio systems sponsored by the Lighthouse. Through the Lighthouse Arts and Entertainment Accessibility program, a person who is legally blind and their companion can acquire half-price show tickets with the Lighthouse funding half of the cost of each ticket.
Stephen Kissel, Blind Community Enrichment Associate at the Lighthouse and a Ph.D. candidate at Saint Louis University, said,” I have attended numerous Fox performances over the years, including two Fox performances with descriptive audio. The descriptive audio service infinitely enhanced my enjoyment of and appreciation for the performances, which have been the most enjoyable Fox experiences I have ever had. Thanks to the descriptive audio, I can take in all the visual aspects of the sets, costumes, choreography and special effects without someone having to whisper in my ear during the entire performance.

Tickets to the descriptive audio shows must be purchased from the Lighthouse at least two weeks before each show date. Audio headsets will be available on a first come, first-served basis. Descriptive audio show attendees will be asked to complete a short survey about their experience so the Lighthouse and the Fox Theatre can continue to improve this valuable service to enhance the descriptive audio experience.

The Fox Theatre, first opened in January 1929, has been a magnificent showcase for Broadway shows, Vegas performers, top pop, rock and comedy concert acts, country superstars, dance, family productions, gospel plays, classic movies and special events (weddings, graduations, and proms).
