
St. Louis, MO, 5/15/13 – On May 22, 2013 Mental Health America of Eastern Missouri (MHA-EM) hosts its 27th Annual Police Recognition Luncheon at Ces & Judy’s, 10405 Clayton Road, St. Louis, MO 63131. Thirty-nine officers will receive the John J. McAtee Award in recognition of their showing compassion, concern and understanding when working with individuals in psychiatric crisis. Chief Tim Fitch, St. Louis County Police, will deliver the keynote address. The Honorable Judge David L. Dowd and members of the McAtee family will present the awards.
Recipient from St. Louis County Police/Affton Southwest Precinct
Officer Eric Middendorf is receiving the McAtee Award because he responded to a school where a student was displaying suicidal behavior. Officer Middendorf was able to de-escalate the situation and arrange for the individual to be taken to the hospital to receive treatment and further evaluation.

About John J. McAtee Award
John J. McAtee became an attorney in 1930, served as president of the St. Louis Bar Association, and practiced law until his death in 1995. During his work as a judge, John realized how many people came before his court that needed mental health treatment rather than incarceration. The John J. McAtee Award was established in recognition of his work with law enforcement and the court system, and his compassion for persons with mental illness.
