Operation Clean Stream

Enjoy spending time outdoors? Hate seeing trash while on a float trip or hiking through some green space? Want to do something about it?

Well, get involved with Operation Clean Stream!

Organized by The Open Space Council for the St. Louis Region, a nonprofit land and water conservation organization, this event is one of the largest and longest ongoing river clean-ups in America. Last year, over 2,000 area volunteers offered their time and labor to rid over 500 miles of the Meramec River and its four tributaries of trash and debris. The 45th annual event is scheduled for Saturday, August 25 and Sunday, August 26 2012. There are various sites all over the greater St. Louis region in which volunteers can get involved to help restore the Meramec River watershed. Also, all volunteers will be provided with gloves and trash bags, along with a free t-shirt! Canoes are not provided for this event, but various outfitters along the Meramec and its tributaries, will offer discounts to volunteers, for this particular event. And, there is no minimum age requirement to participate (as long as children are accompanied by adults).
