The event will include a youth fun run as well as educational opportunities for those looking to get active and fit. In addition, the day-long event will celebrate St. Louis’ healthy accomplishments and feature vendors spotlighting healthy lifestyle choices.

The 5K race will weave its way through Grand Center and around the historic Saint Louis University campus. The Centers for Disease Control ranks Missouri as the 11thfattest state in the country, with about 30 percent of its residents considered to be obese. The Trust for Americans and Robert Wood Johnson Foundation recently predicted that by 2030, the obesity rate in Missouri and 38 other states will top 50 percent. Education about health, diet and exercise is more important now than ever before.

"We at Christ Deliverance Ministry are committed fighting obesity, which is becoming so prevalent in today’s world and in St. Louis,” said Cynthia Ringo, pastor of Christ Deliverance Ministry. “With proper education about exercise and healthy eating, we can make dramatic changes in people's lives. The Mind and Body Fitness 5K will help transform the community by supporting those who are changing their lives by taking control and getting results that last."

Register for the 5K at www.cdmmindandbody.org. The event will kick off at 7 a.m., with the race starting at 8; workshops, fitness class and vendor expo to follow.
