Affton High School Has Water Polo Team after 35 years

Affton High School has Water Polo Team after 35 years.

Coach Ted Greenhouse started the Affton High School Water Polo Club this past February, after a 30 plus year hiatus from the inter scholastic sport at Affton High School. Affton had a 6 year plus run in fielding a very successful interscholastic water polo team in the 1970's. The former coach, Don Casey has landed as the long running water polo coach at MICDS (Ladue) for 30 plus years. Coach Greenhouse comes to Affton High School with 25 plus years as head water polo coach, and starting the 3 times national championship winning inter collegiate water polo program at Lindenwood University as well as Lincoln Way-Central High School (Chicago), starting the water polo program at DeSmet Jesuit High School, and his year round high school USA water polo club, Parkway Piranhas fron 1990-2010. You might say Coach Greenhouse has been bred for the water. As a student at Clayton High School, he was part of an undefeated 2 times Missouri State Championship water polo team as well as being named first team all-state 2 years in a row, besides being a varsity swimmer and continuing on in both sports at Westminster College. His son, Lt. Cole Greenhouse, a career United States Naval Officer currently on active duty in the middle east was also a stand out high school water polo player, and swimmer at Parkway West High School, and college water polo player at Mizzou. And yes, Cole played for his Dad on the year round Parkway Piranhas Water Polo Club. Ted's goals are to bring a successful inter scholastic water polo program on board for Affton High School that will eventually include both varsity, and a junior-varsity teams, and to make certain that all students learn, and have an appreciation for sportsmanship, to develop leadership skills leading to positive character development. After the current high school season wraps up in early May, Coach Greenhouse has already signed up his players to be on his summer high school league team, beginning in June. All students in the Affton School District entering high school in August are encouraged to contact Coach Greenhouse at the high school to participate this summer.
