Grammar Guru No More!

If you can't spell it, you can't have it. That was the rule of the house then and now.

Hello Everyone!  All my life I have been finicky about grammar and especially about spelling. I know why I am like this. When I was little I had trouble spelling the word sugar.  My Mom calmly asked me if I wanted anything from the grocery store and she said if I couldn't spell it, I couldn't have it. So no sugar cookies for me that week. At that moment spelling became very important to me.

So when I became a Mom I used the same rule. If you wanted it, you needed to know how to spell it. I can do lots of things to aggravate my kids, but spelling seems to be the one thing they find that I do that makes them crazy. So in yesterdays blog they found a grammar mistake and they have been hounding me about it since.

O.k., I am not perfect and yes, sometimes I misspell something or worse, use bad grammar. In my defense, I am probably thinking faster than I can type. but as far as my kids are concerned, I am flawed!

Being flawed is a good thing when you are a parent. Why? I want my kids to know I am human, not a super human, just a human being trying her best. I want my kids to see that no one is perfect and making mistakes is par for the course. I believe that they need to mistakes now that they are home and we can learn how to overcome mistakes and pick ourselves up and put things right again.

Watching them watch me is funny. They love to find my mistakes and point them out to me, in a fun and respectful way. And I love them learning to see the right from the wrong every day.
