Cougars Beat Bronchos in Girls Volleyball Showdown

Affton wins in two games in the latest match of this budding rivalry.

The Afftona and Bayless girls volleyball teams, both looking strong this season, met for their final regular season match Thursday in an exciting neighborhood showdown.

The Affton Cougars weathered a comeback in the second game from the Bayless Bronchos and managed to take the match 2-0 (25-21, 25-20). A shaky serve game by the Cougars kept the Bronchos around in the first game as they failed to put them away. The Bronchos managed to keep within an arm’s reach of the lead, going back and forth point for point with the score tied 18-18. Mistakes by the Bronchos due to a lack of communication seemed to be their undoing, however, and they eventually lost in the first game 25-21.

The second game saw the Cougars take a commanding 10-2 lead, quickly leaving the Bronchos stunned and looking for answers. Those answers came from impressive scoring streaks on the serve of Britney Dunnworth and Tina Pham which quickly shot down the Cougars' lead and even putting the Bronchos ahead 19-18.
