Ulysses S. Grant National Historic Site will host author H.W. Brands to speak on his new book, The Man Who Saved the Union. The book explores Grant as a general and president during the country’s most turbulent eras. This book encourages a new look at Grant both as a commander who saved the Union during the Civil War and a president who protected the rights of the four million formerly enslaved African Americans while holding a healing nation together.
H.W. Brands is the Dickson Allen Anderson Professor of History at the University of Texas at Austin. A New York Times best-selling author, he was the finalist for the Pulitzer Prize in biography for The First American, a book about Benjamin Franklin, and again for Traitor to His Class, which examines the life of Franklin D. Roosevelt.
Tickets are $10.00 to reserve a seat for this event. The ticket will be honored for $10 toward a minimum $10 purchase in the U.S. Grant NHS Sales Area on the day of the event only. H.W. Brand’s book will be available for purchase.
