From Three Speed Limits to One on Little St. Vincent Avenue

Shrewsbury Board of Aldermen pass ordinance creating a uniform speed limit of 20 mph.

Shrewsbury motorists driving on St. Vincent Avenue will soon want to start checking their speedometers.

The Shrewsbury Board of Aldermen voted unanimously to create a uniform speed limit of 20 mph on the small residential street at a meeting Tuesday night. Previously, Shrewsbury Director of Administration Jonathon Greever said the maximum allowable speed on the road could vary from 20 mph up to 35 mph, which didn’t make much sense.

“It was three different speed limits before ,and now it’s just one,” he said.

Aldermen created the change by altering the city ordinance governing its traffic codes. Mayor Felicity Buckley said board members had discussed the change at this month’s work session and added that it would help “get our speed limits in order.”
