Gotsch Student Sells Hand-Woven Goods, Gives to Cancer Charity

You might call Kaitlyn Pluff Affton’s dream weaver.

The recent Gotsch Intermediate School graduate finger-weaves necklaces, bracelets, pony tails, headbands, dog collars and cat collars, “just about anything you can think of,” she said. Pluff is finishing her second school year of selling her products and donating the proceeds to Friends of Kids with Cancer. 

She calls her fundraiser Yarn For Cancer. She and some friends raised more than $200 this year, after making $120 last year for her charity.

“I’ve always supported (the charity) since I was little,” she said. “It all started when I was in kindergarten, and I had a lemonade stand, and I didn’t know where to send the money to,” she said. He mom suggested Friends of Kids With Cancer. 

“From then on, I decided that’s my organization, and I want to support them all my life,” she said.

She organized a team of classmates at school to help with making and selling the goods for one dollar apiece, which included advertising during recess.

“A special person carried the sign at recess,” Pluff said. “It definitely attracted a lot of attention because we don’t usually carry signs around at recess.”

Pluff said she hopes to continue the project when she gets to Rogers Middle School.
