Holy Cow! Salem Lutheran Principal Wears Cow Costume for a Cause

Rob Kellar, Principal of in Affton, is a man of his word. 

In February, Kellar told his students that if they raised $500 for Heifer International, he would dress up like an actual heifer. For an entire day.

Heifer International is a charity that buys livestock for families in struggling countries so they can support themselves.

Driven by that cause—and Kellar's tempting promise—the students exceeded their goal by raising $627.31 for the charity. Their success meant two things: They could now afford to buy a cow for an impoverished family. And Kellar needed to find a cow costume. 

In March Kellar fulfilled his promise by spending an entire school day in a large black and white Holstein heifer costume. The costume was a big hit with students, who posed for photos with Kellar throughout the day. More importantly, the project allowed Salem students to "live" the theme of their 2011-12 school year, "Christians in Action," and have fun doing it.

Salem Lutheran School is located at 5025 Lakewood Rd. in Affton and serves 185 students in pre-school through eighth grade.
