Playing for a state title never really crossed his mind. But after earning the No. 1 seed in the Wickenheiser Cup Championship Tournament this year, and staging a brilliant run through the playoffs, the Lancers now find themselves just one win away from winning the first hockey state title in school history.
But it won't be easy, as Lutheran South will have to take on league rival Whitfield High in the Wickenheiser Cup championship game tonight at 5:30 p.m. at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis.

The game will be televised live on FOX Sports Midwest Plus on Wednesday, and will be re-run several times throughout the month on FOX Sports Midwest.
South, which just missed out on a berth in the top-level Challenge Cup playoffs, has made the most of its No. 1 ranking in the Wick Cup tournament by bowling over its first three playoff opponents Parkway North, Wentville Holt, and Seckman.
In fact, the Lancers have lost just one game through the first three playoff rounds and could finish the year with the program's best record ever with a win on Wednesday.
Here's a quick look at both combatants in Wednesday night's Wick Cup Championship Game at Scottrade Center in St. Louis:
