Lock Up: Another Rash of Thefts From Shrewsbury Cars

A number of overnight thefts from parked vehicles were reported in the central corridor of Shrewsbury Wednesday, said Shrewsbury Police Chief Jeffery Keller. A similar rash of thefts was .

According to an email sent to residents, the location of these incidents includes the 7300-7500 blocks of Brunswick and Nottingham Avenues, as well as Verguene Avenue. 

In all of the reported incidents, the vehicles were parked on the street or in a driveway and were left unlocked. The thieves rummaged through the vehicles taking loose change, CD’s and a GPS device as well as other, smaller items that are easy to carry. 

Keller said that at approximately 4:15 a.m. Wednesday morning, an officer on patrol spotted three suspicious individuals, wearing dark clothing, walking in the 5400 block of Kenrick Parke Drive. When the officer attempted to stop the individuals, all three fled the area on foot. The subjects could not be located.

Police believe these are the individuals responsible for the thefts. They appear to have been walking through various portions of the city looking for unlocked vehicles. Patrol officers are continuing to provide frequent and extra patrols throughout the area.

Police urged residents to remove valuables from their vehicles and to lock their cars when possible. They also encouraged residents to report any suspicious activity to the dispatch center at 645-3000, or 911 in case of emergency.
