Lose $14,000? Goodwill Seeks Donor of Mystery Cash

The South County location believes the money found in their donation bin was left by mistake.

We all lose things, but how often do you misplace $14,505 cash?

Last Wednesday Tina Wells, store manager at the South County Goodwill at 10570 Baptist Church Rd., found $14,505 in large bills left in a donation made Tuesday afternoon.

"It was just a regular day, and then there it was," Wells told Patch. "When I opened it, I was just like, wow, holy cow, oh my god, oh my god...It’s not monopoly money, it’s real."

However, Goodwill believes the sum was donated accidentally, and would like the donor to come forward. The donor should call Goodwill at (314) 982-8802.

Security cam footage shows the donor was driving a green Ford F150 truck and visited the donation drop-off site at approximately 3 p.m. The money was found among Christmas items.

What will happen to the money if no one claims it? After 30 days the money will go help fund MERS/Goodwill’s programs, such as a sheltered workshop that serves individuals with severe disabilities, a halfway house that helps women transition out of prison into sustainable work and a partnership with Judge Jimmy Edwards in the Innovative Concept Academy helping educate troubled youth.

Correction: a previous version of this article mistakenly stated that the donation was made Wednesday, May 9. It was made the day before.
