Nearby: Charlie Dooley Says Oakville Residents Missed Their Chance to Stop HUD Housing

The day Oakville residents met with Sixth District St. Louis County Councilman Steve Stenger, St. Louis County Executive Charlie Dooley said the county can’t legally stop construction on a HUD senior housing project on Telegraph Road, CBS news reported.

Dooley said they have missed their chance to stop construction.

“It’s a part of the plan, we kept the guidelines, all the procedures was done, all of the notifications was done and no one came to those meetings,” he says. “Now why they didn’t, I can’t speak to that.”

Residents say they weren’t properly notified of the rezoning hearing that allowed the three-story to be built on the 1.5 acre site. They’re also upset that it’s next to the Goddard School. Part of the new building will be five feet from the preschool's property line.

Close to a thousand attended a town-hall meeting with Stenger in the Oakville High School gym on Friday, where Stenger said he would try to halt the construction with a resolution at the upcoming St. Louis County Council meeting on Tuesday.
