New Coach Ready to Make His Mark at Lutheran South
Chuck Faucette returns to high school coaching after two seasons with the Rams with a team he says offers much potential.
Although it’s been 13 years since Chuck Faucette has coached at the high-school level, the newly hired head football coach at is already making headways in a program that’s struggled over the past several seasons.
Faucette comes to Lutheran South after serving as the St. Louis Rams assistant strength and conditioning coach for the past two seasons. He also spent time as a strength and conditioning coach at the University of Texas and Southern Methodist University.
“My wife says that I’m back in my own element,” Faucette said in regards to taking on the head coaching duties at Lutheran South. “The last high school coaching job I had was back in 1998, so I was I either Division I or in the NFL for the last 13 years. But I feel rejuvenated, so to speak.”

The Lancers return six players on offense as well as four players on defense this season as Lutheran South looks to improve on it’s record of 4-6 last season.
The Lancers, 0-1 after a 56-40 loss to Dubourg last Friday, will host small-school powerhouse MICDS in Week 2 before traveling to Lutheran North on September 10 for a 1 p.m. game.
At offensive tackle and defensive tackle are seniors Dan Boothman and John Kelly. Boothman enters his third season as a starter with the Lancers.
“Dan’s a tough kid,” Faucette said. “The success of our offense will start with Dan and John Kelly.”
Kelly racked up 17 tackles, one sack and one interception last season for Lutheran South.
“John’s actually the more athletic of our two tackles, and he’s a player that has really good feet,” Faucette said. “He’s also a great kid to be around.”
At guard for the Lancers is junior Bobby Hopkins, who recorded a total of seven tackles last season.
“Bobby’s the one with the motor that runs 24/7,” Faucette said. “He’s the type of player that’s going to bring it during every play.”
Senior Christian Beckerle looks to be one of the Lancers’ staples at wide receiver this season after scoring three touchdowns on nine receptions for 130 yards receiving.
“Christian has great hands and is a very tall receiver,” Faucette said. “He’s going to be one of our go-to guys this season.”
Another senior wide receiver on the Lancer’s roster this season is Nathan Dehn, who had one touchdown with five receptions for 76 yards receiving.
“Nathan’s a speedster with great hands,” Faucette said. “He’s an explosive player that will do it all for us.”
Junior Dalton Schumer will serve as Lutheran South’s quarterback after seeing limited action as a sophomore.
“Dalton has a great arm and is a smart kid,” Faucette said. “I think that Dalton has the ability to play at the next level and although this is his first year as a starter, he has that great arm and poise out there on the field.”
Reid Brown will play at tight end and defensive end this season, and the Lancer’s head coach is expecting big things from the junior this season.
“Reid is very big and is just coming into his own this season,” Faucette said. “We’re really looking for big things out of him this season.”
